Why Go Surfing?
Why not go surfing? There is no better way to enjoy the summer than to put on a wetsuit and spend a couple hours in the Pacific Ocean. Surfing is the ultimate triple threat activity, it exercises your body, your mind and your soul. Whether you have some experience, are curious, have always wanted to surf or are just looking for something to do while on the Long Beach Peninsula, Skookum Surf Co. has you covered. Skookum Surf Co. tailors its surf lessons to the abilities of each student, offering instruction for beginners and intermediate surfers. Our area is sometimes referred to as the Discovery coast because of the local adventures of the Lewis & Clark expedition 200 years ago, if you take a lesson you will have gone farther than they ever did!
Why Take a Surf Lesson?
Surf lessons are hands down the best way to learn and improve your surfing. We have seen it over an over again how much lessons help. Taking 1-2 surf lessons is the equvalent of surfing 10-20 times on your own, only without developing any bad habits. Plus lessons show you how to be safe in the water. Regardless of your age, our only physical requirements are that you can do a push-up and swim a length of the pool, we take care of the rest. We don't guarantee that you will stand up on your first lesson, but we do guarantee that you will be warm and have fun. We subscribe to the philosophy that "the best surfer in the water is the one having the most fun".
Will I Be Cold?
In a word "NO"! Being on the mouth of the Columbia River, we have the benefit of water that gets heated up inland. Our participants never need booties or hoods in the summer, even when surfers are other beaches up and down the coast are wearing them. Our 4/3 wetsuits are designed for fit and our Instructors will help ensure you get a good fitting suit which is the key to surfing comfort. If that is not enough to keep you warm our Instructors will take care of the rest by making sure that you move around so much before going into the water and while you are in the water that you will be too hot to ever get cold.
